Utah man killed after incident of aggression while driving

CLEARFIELD, Utah – A man who died as a result of a driving rage shooting has been identified.

Clearfield City Police identified the deceased as James Edward Saccato, 63, of West Point, Utah.

The incident occurred Monday evening, June 3, near Industrial Parkway and SR-193 in Clearfield City. According to police, someone called Layton 911 dispatch to report a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash.

In a statement, police said the 911 caller was one of the drivers involved in the driving aggression incident.

According to police, the driver of the car he was pursuing “attempted to elude the 911 caller.” The caller stayed connected with police and informed them of his location “while pursuing the other vehicle.”

The car being pursued by the 911 caller stopped near 300 North 1200 West. The driver of the fleeing vehicle got out of his car and approached the pursuing vehicle.

“This encounter ended in a shootout that resulted in the death of the driver of the fleeing vehicle,” police said. “The 911 caller was arrested and is currently cooperating with the investigation.”

Police are asking anyone driving on SR-193 between State Street and 1000 West in Clearfield between 6:20 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. on Monday, June 3, to contact them.

Specifically, they are looking for dashcam videos showing a dark 2002 Chevy K2500 truck and a white 2000 Ford Ranger.
