CT man shot and killed during “riot” in Waterbury

A man was shot dead in the early hours of Tuesday following unrest in Waterbury.

Police responded to the area of ​​69 Washington St. at 12:16 a.m. on a report of a shooting and learned that a gunshot victim had been transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital in a private vehicle, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.

The victim, later identified by police at the hospital as 30-year-old Roberto Baez of Waterbury, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, Bessette said in a statement.

Officers who arrived on Washington Street found evidence of a shooting and, according to Bessette, believe Baez was shot there during “some kind of disturbance” outside.

Bessette said investigators believe it was an isolated incident.
