Porsche accident in Pune: Police form more than 12 teams to investigate several aspects

Police have formed over a dozen teams of 100 personnel each to look into various aspects of the extensive investigation into the Porsche car crash case allegedly involving a minor driver, an official said.

Police have registered three separate cases after two IT professionals riding a motorcycle were fatally hit by a car allegedly driven by a minor boy in Kalyani Nagar area of Pune city, Maharashtra, on May 19.

The three cases include a complaint about the accident and a second complaint against the bar that allegedly served alcohol to the teen. Police have arrested the boy’s father, a construction worker, for allowing him to drive the car without a valid license. A third case involves unlawful detention and coercing the family driver to take responsibility for the accident.

Of the boy’s family members, police have so far arrested his father, grandfather and (the minor’s) mother after confirming that his blood samples had been replaced with hers, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said on June 1.

Others in police custody include two doctors from the state-run Sassoon General Hospital and a staff member on suspicion of swapping the minor boy’s blood sample.

The police invoked provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Juvenile Justice Act, the Motor Vehicles Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act in the cases registered against the accused in connection with the incident.

“To ensure that the investigation is carried out professionally and effectively, we have deployed several teams. About 100 police officers, including constables, are handling various aspects of the case,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade.

The police have formed three teams of eight to ten personnel each to investigate the three registered cases, two teams for documentation to substantiate the cases, one team for monitoring CCTV footage, three teams for technical analysis and an equal number for field operations. One team each is entrusted with escorting the accused and communication.

“This multi-faceted approach aims to cover all aspects of the investigation and ensure thorough and careful handling of the case,” said Mr Balkawade.

As part of the investigation, the police also spoke with the minor for about an hour in the presence of his mother in the observation home, where he was sent until June 5.

However, one official said they “did not come out with the truth during the investigation.”
