Woman dies in collision with semi-trailer on I-64 in Harrison County

Indiana State Police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a semi-truck while walking on Interstate 64. According to ISP, Harrison County authorities requested assistance around 1:30 a.m. Saturday after a truck struck a pedestrian on I-64 at the Lanesville exit. When troopers arrived, they found a woman lying on the road between the Lanesville exit and the Crandall/Lanesville Road overpass. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said two semi-trucks were at the scene. The driver of one of the semi-trucks told police he swerved and missed the woman in the eastbound lane, but veered off the left side of the road and drove through the guardrail before coming to a stop on the west side of the interstate. According to ISP, the driver of the second semi-truck was traveling eastbound on I-64 and was unable to avoid striking the woman in the middle of the right lane. According to police, the driver of the truck that struck the woman immediately drove off the road and remained at the scene. After an investigation, ISP said the woman parked her vehicle on the eastbound Lanesville exit and walked toward the interstate for an unknown reason before she was struck. The woman could not be identified because investigators say she was carrying multiple IDs from different states, each with different identities. However, investigators say they received information that she may have been from Columbia. The investigation is ongoing. The interstate remained closed until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Indiana State Police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a semi-trailer while walking on Interstate 64.

According to ISP, Harrison County authorities requested assistance around 1:30 a.m. Saturday after a truck struck a pedestrian on I-64 at the Lanesville exit.

When officers arrived, they found a woman on the road between the Lanesville exit and the Crandall/Lanesville Road overpass.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, two semi-trailers were present at the scene of the accident.

The driver of one of the semi-trailers told police he swerved and missed the woman on the eastbound lane, but then veered off the left side of the road and crashed through the guardrail before coming to a stop on the west side of the highway.

According to ISP, the driver of the second semi-trailer was traveling east on I-64 and was unable to avoid a collision with the woman in the middle of the right lane.

According to police, the driver of the truck that hit the woman immediately left the road and remained at the scene of the accident.

After an investigation, ISP said the woman parked her vehicle on the eastbound Lanesville exit and walked toward the interstate for an unknown reason before she was struck.

The woman’s identity could not be verified because, according to investigators, she was carrying multiple IDs from different states, each with different identities.

However, investigators say they have evidence that she may be from Colombia.

The investigation is ongoing. The motorway remained closed until 6 a.m. on Saturday.
