Someone is impersonating a deputy sheriff – Baxter County Fraud Alert

Arkansas. – The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office recently issued a community alert regarding a scammer active in the area.

This person is posing as Lieutenant Lee Sanders. He calls community members, pretending to be a sheriff’s office employee, and tells them that they have warrants out for their arrest or that they have failed to appear for jury duty and must wire money to avoid arrest.

In the post, the sheriff’s office wrote: “No one from the Sheriff’s Office makes calls of this nature. If you receive such a call, DO NOT provide, verify or confirm any personal information of any kind. DO NOT send money or arrange to send money, purchase cash cards, or agree to any such transactions. If you are compelled to send money as a result of this scam, your loss is yours and is non-refundable. We recommend that you HANG UP immediately and do not continue speaking to the caller.”

Be cautious with unknown numbers and do not give out money without checking their credibility.
