New Olympic Avenue Apartment Complex Opens

BUFFALO, N.Y. — On Buffalo’s East Side, a new apartment complex is now open and accepting applications.

Olympic Avenue Apartments is a $19 million affordable housing complex, transforming the former Public School 76 into 46 apartments for low-income families.

Eight of these units will be reserved for people with physical disabilities and they will have access to on-site support services.

The project is part of the state’s plan to address the needs of Buffalo’s East Side after the Tops mass shooting, but the state says more is to come.

“We are under construction with Mount Olive Senior Manor,” said Leonard Skrill, deputy commissioner of the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal. “We have completed the redevelopment of McCarley Gardens. We are waiting to plan the inauguration of both phases of the Pilgrim Village. We cannot fix what happened on May 14, but we can try to make things better and we are working really hard to improve things.

In addition to the apartments, the complex offers free internet, a community garden and a playground.
