Former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis has her law license revoked in Colorado

Jenna Ellis, a former lawyer for Donald Trump who tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election, has been barred from practicing law in Colorado for three years.

Ellis, 39, had her law license officially suspended on Tuesday as part of an agreement with the Colorado State Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. She faced disbarment after pleading guilty to a felony in the Georgia RICO case against Trump and several of his allies.

“Although disbarment is the presumptive punishment for (Ellis’) misconduct, it is significant that her criminal culpability stems from her conduct as an accessory rather than a principal offender,” the agreement states, according to the Colorado Sun.

Ellis met with lawmakers from Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona and Michigan and urged them to appoint illegitimate pro-Trump electors in a desperate attempt to keep Trump in power, according to the charges against her in the RICO case.

In October 2023, she finally pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the making of false statements and documents and was sentenced to five years’ probation and 100 hours of community service. Ellis was also fined $5,000 and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors.

Colorado law generally prohibits people convicted of a serious crime from practicing law, but Ellis reached an agreement with Colorado law enforcement that would suspend her law license for only three years.

Ellis, a former assistant state attorney in Colorado, was hired by Trump’s re-election campaign as legal counsel in 2019 after appearing on numerous Fox News segments. When she pleaded guilty, Ellis claimed her superiors on Trump’s legal team misled her about claims of election fraud.

“If I had known then what I know now, I would have refused to represent Donald Trump,” she said in court.
