Coroner: Johnstown teenager dies Sunday after swimming pool incident | Cambria County

JOHNSTOWN, Pennsylvania – A Johnstown teenager has died two days after being pulled from a hotel swimming pool, investigators said.

Tahjmir Seeney, 18, was at the Holiday Inn Johnstown-Downtown on Sunday with relatives who had traveled from out of town to celebrate his graduation from Greater Johnstown High School, Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said.

The family was swimming together when a relative noticed Seeney sinking to the bottom of the pool, Lees said.

He said the tragic incident occurred shortly before noon on Sunday.

A bystander performed CPR before firefighters stepped in and took over. Seeney was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday, Lees said.

Amy Arcurio, superintendent of the Greater Johnstown School District, said Tuesday that the entire district was heartbroken.

She described Seeney as a great young man with a bright future ahead of him. He had completed his training in the school’s welding program and already had a job lined up when the incident occurred.

“He was loved by so many,” Arcurio said. “His family is in our hearts and prayers, and we are giving them as much support as we can today … during this tragic time.”

The cause and manner of Seeney’s death have not yet been determined, but Lees said the death is not being considered suspicious.

An autopsy is planned for later this week, Lees said.

He said Seeney’s family was still making funeral arrangements Tuesday.
