Shannon “Shay” Ruth accused Nick Carter of sexual assault and rape when she was 17 and he was 22. Shay claimed Nick invited her onto his tour bus after a concert in Tacoma, Washington, in February 2001. Shay claimed Carter forced her to perform oral sex on him, raped her and infected her with a sexually transmitted disease. Shay, who has cerebral palsy and autism, filed a sexual assault lawsuit in Clark County, Nevada, in 2022.

Another anonymous accuser is Jane Doe AR, who sued him in August, alleging that he raped her on a yacht in 2003 when she was 15. Nick Carter filed countersuits against Shannon Ruth and Melissa Schuman, claiming the trio conspired to harass, defame and extort him.
