Pune: A police inspector and an assistant police inspector (ASI) have been suspended following the Porsche accident in Pune that left two people dead. They have been penalized for alleged lapses in the case. The car that caused the accident was driven by a minor who is currently lodged in a juvenile home. The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch of Pune Police.

Suspended police officers did not inform their superiors

The two suspended police officers allegedly failed to follow the protocol of informing their superiors about the accident. The suspended police officers are Police Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari. They should have informed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, who was on night duty at the time of the incident, which they allegedly failed to do. Both the inspector and the assistant inspector are posted at Yerwada police station, where the accused, a teenager, was taken after the incident.

The case was initially registered at the Yerwada police station, but was later transferred to the CID. The accident occurred late on Sunday evening. The teenager who was driving was allegedly drunk and hit the two motorcyclists from behind.

The police have also arrested the boy’s father in the case and remanded him in custody till June 7. The boy has been lodged in a remand prison till June 5. The police said they are collecting all possible evidence against the teenager and will demand that he be tried as an adult. However, the court has not yet taken a decision on the matter. The teenager was initially released on bail a few hours after the accident and asked to write a 300-word essay on the accident. This sparked a nationwide outcry and even some prominent politicians joined in condemning the crime and the punishment.
