Winnipeg police are closing down the Portage and Arlington areas following the death of a 46-year-old man

Winnipeg police say the death of a 46-year-old man is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers responded to Portage Avenue and Arlington Street around 2:20 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of an injured man, police said in a news release Sunday.

According to police, the man was found on the ground near the intersection where he received emergency medical attention.

He was hospitalized in critical condition but was later pronounced dead, the release said.

Blood stains were seen on a sidewalk along Portage on Sunday. Evidence markers were also placed in the area.

According to a social media post, police cordoned off eastbound Portage, near Arlington, as well as southbound Arlington, north of Portage. They are asking drivers to avoid the area.

The man’s family has not yet been notified.
