BCCI suspends Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has suspended Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant for the franchise’s third slow-paced offence. DC failed to complete the overs in the given time frame against Rajasthan Royals. Pant was fined INR 30 lakh for his match fees.

The rest of the Delhi players who took part in that match against Rajasthan, including the impact player, were fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever is less.

He will miss the next contest against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 12 in Season 17. His suspension will impact Delhi’s playoff chances as the franchise needs to win the remaining two games to have a chance of qualifying for the next round. He was one of their best players this season.

DC appealed the match referee’s ruling. The appeal was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman, who conducted a virtual hearing and decided to rule against the franchise and its captain.

The southpaw has already been fined INR 12 lakh and INR 24 lakh for the first two speeding violations.

The first violation occurred during the DC vs CSK match in Vizag. Pant was fined INR 12 lakh.

The second offense occurred against Kolkata Knight Riders.
