Weather warning day: Strong afternoon storms possible

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Extreme weather warnings are in place for Tuesday, with isolated showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will start at 21 degrees Celsius, with thick fog likely to be expected during your morning commute. After the morning fog clears, we will experience light winds and partly cloudy skies. Highs will rise to 32 degrees Celsius, which will make the atmosphere more unstable.

Showers and thunderstorms will likely begin in our mountain counties and move south toward Uptown around 5 p.m. Expect isolated thunderstorms with scattered heavy rain and the chance of thunderstorms bringing damaging winds to the region.

There is a slight risk of severe weather today, with wind being the biggest concern. Storms will ease this evening, while overnight lows will drop to just under 21 degrees. Temperatures will start to rise again, rising above 35 degrees again on Wednesday.

In the second half of the week we will really heat up, as the maximum temperatures will rise to over 35 degrees and the perceived temperatures will once again reach the three-digit range.

A cold front will bring us back to temperatures between 90 and 100 degrees by the weekend, with the chance of storms increasing again in the Carolinas. It will stay hot and summery through Monday of next week, with the chance of storms in the afternoon.

Today: Partly cloudy and hot, with showers and thunderstorms likely! High: 91.

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy and warm. Low: 72.
