Bold prediction sees Houston Astros land reigning Cy Young winner

With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Houston Astros have worked their way into a position where they can be buyers to bolster this roster for the second half of the season and into the playoffs.

They will also benefit from significant reinforcements in their pitching staff and once Kyle Tucker returns to the field, they won’t really need to be as aggressive as other teams in the league.

Still, there are clear needs the Astros should pursue before the deadline, something Dana Brown has openly discussed by saying they are targeting a starting pitcher to join their rotation.

A player they were chasing is now out of the game, limiting their available options.

It’s possible, however, that Houston has bided its time to negotiate with a team that may have the most valuable asset that could be available before July 30.

After not calling on the reigning National League Cy Young winner this offseason, the Astros might be interested in bringing Blake Snell into the mix so they can aim for another World Series championship.

It would certainly be expensive, but this franchise has been aggressive in the past.

That’s why MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince cites Houston’s acquisition of the star left-hander as one of his bold predictions ahead of the trade deadline.

“The acquisition of Snell will be one last big move for Deadline to try to push this team past the Mariners for good in the AL West standings and advance once again into October,” he wrote.

A trade of that magnitude would certainly be a smash hit, something the Astros are no strangers to after acquiring Justin Verlander, Ryan Pressly, Zack Greinke and several other impact players at deadlines in years past.

“Snell’s 2025 player option really complicates the trade equation. Would Houston move top prospect Jacob Melton in this deal? Could it involve Spencer Arrighetti? I have no idea,” Castrovince added.

As the San Francisco Giants begin to gain momentum, there is little indication that they are willing to give up their ace, especially with the National League’s playoff picture so confusing that a good stretch of play could put them back in contention.

For Houston to do that, they’ll have to aggressively give up more assets in their farm system, but they might consider it worth it if they can win their third World Series title.
