Heat and humidity will persist into the last days of July, with the possibility of rain showers and thunderstorms.

Surface high pressure is near the east coast while a front is over the northern plains. A light breeze from the south will persist as our weather remains dry tonight with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. It will remain muggy as temperatures cool to around 21 degrees. Sunday will see a mix of sunshine and clouds as the front slowly advances eastward throughout the day. The warm and muggy conditions will not let up as breezy southerly winds persist and temperatures will again be between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius while dew points will remain steady between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius.

Our next chance for rain will be late Sunday night as a weakening complex of showers and thunderstorms from Minnesota moves in ahead of the approaching cold front. Depending on whether or not the complex holds together, these will move through Monday morning, with a chance of thunderstorms forming again in the afternoon. Clouds will dominate for the most part, but some sunshine can’t be ruled out as temperatures briefly rise into the seasonally high 30s. Despite a slightly cooler day, the higher humidity will still make it feel like we’re in the 30s to 35s when factoring in the heat index. The weak boundary will finally break through Monday night, and as moisture persists at low elevations, we’ll likely start with low layered clouds on Tuesday, with more sunshine expected gradually as the day progresses. A ridge of high pressure will move across the region, pushing temperatures back up into the 30s. As July ends on Wednesday, a low pressure system is expected to form to the west with a front to the south. Isolated showers or thunderstorms are possible, but midweek looks mostly dry with sunshine and above-average temperatures again just above 30 degrees. The low will move through on Thursday and drift eastward, with isolated showers or thunderstorms still not out of the question. Sun will mix with clouds, while highs will be just above 30 degrees. There will be little to no relief from humidity by the end of the week as another ridge of heat spreads across the Western United States. Dry weather will prevail, and a cold front will move south by Saturday, bringing a slight drop in temperatures to just above 30 degrees.
