Assistant doctors at ABUTH suspend warning strike

The Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), a branch of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), has ended a five-day warning strike over outstanding salary payments to certain members.

Ashiru Mikail, NARD vice president, said in Zaria on Tuesday that the strike was called off on Monday evening. He said the doctors resumed work at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The decision to suspend the five-day strike was made after a meeting between NARD and the ABUTH management.

“There was a serious commitment by the management to the association’s demands; the management had promised to stop paying percentage salaries to our members.
“The meeting also saw the planning of vigorous initiatives to curb further disagreements between the association and the ABUTH management,” he said.

On July 22, ABUTH management began a five-day strike to protest, among other things, the partial payment of salaries to Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) employees and the non-payment of equipment allowance.
