A day after Israel attacked Houthi positions in Yemen, the Iran-backed terrorists launched a new rocket attack on Israel on Sunday.

The Israeli military said it intercepted a missile heading toward Eilat, an Israeli city on the Red Sea coast.

Separately, the Houthis confirmed the attack in a Telegram post, saying they fired a missile at Eilat “in response to American, British and Israeli aggression against our country.”

Since the war between Israel and Hamas began in October 2023, the Houthis have carried out hundreds of attacks in the Red Sea, disrupting global trade. They have hijacked ships and are at war in the region with the US and British navies deployed to protect the regions from Houthis’ aggression. Although the Houthis have carried out attacks on Israel before, Saturday’s attack was the first since the start of their terror campaign.

The Israeli military said the Houthi missile was intercepted before it entered the country’s airspace.

The Houthis have carried out over 200 attacks on Israel

In the nine months of war in the Middle East, the Yemeni-born Houthis – the Iran-backed anti-Israel terrorists who control large parts of the country – have carried out more than 200 attacks on Israel.

Most of these attacks were carried out on Eilat, the southernmost city on the Red Sea.

The attacks included ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones. Until Friday, all such attacks had been repelled by Israel’s air defense systems. The only time a missile got through was in March, when it landed in an open field in Eilat.

Israel attacks port of Hodeidah in Yemen

On Saturday, Israel attacked the Houthis for the first time in the nine-month war.

In an attack called “Operation Outstretched Arm,” Israeli warplanes attacked about ten targets in Houthi-controlled Yemen.

According to the New York Times, the targets attacked by Israel included the port of Hodeidah on the Red Sea, a power plant, and gas and oil depots.

The newspaper reported that the Israeli military said these sites were being used by the Houthis for military purposes.

According to media reports, the attack sites in Hodeidah were in flames during the night from Saturday to Sunday.

According to the Associated Press, Houthi-controlled local authorities said 80 people were injured in the attack.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Saturday’s attacks should serve as a warning to the entire region.

“The attack on the port of Hodeidah and another site, a power plant, sends an important message. We see that Iran and Hezbollah are watching this and wondering whether Israel might be deterred – Israel’s powerful operation sends a clear message because Iran is 200 kilometers closer than the port of Hodeidah,” Katz told Israeli public broadcaster Kan.

As the Jerusalem Post reported, although the port attacked by Israeli warplanes is being used by the Houthis for humanitarian purposes, the Israeli government believes it is being used to bring weapons disguised as humanitarian aid into the country.
