One dead and one arrested in suspected rage-driven shooting in Elgin

The incident occurred between two vehicles traveling west on US 290 near County Line Road.

ELGIN, Texas — One person is dead and another is in custody after a shooting in Elgin that authorities say appears to have been a road rage incident.

Elgin Police Chief Chris Noble told KVUE the incident began between two vehicles traveling west on U.S. 290 near County Line Road.

Then two people got out of their cars and started fighting. One of them pulled out a gun and shot the other. Police said it appeared to be a fight between two people who did not know each other.

The situation remains active and drivers are asked to exercise caution.

Shortly after 8 p.m., Elgin police said the eastbound lanes of U.S. 290 were open, while the westbound lanes on County Line Road remained closed.
