United Airlines responds to incident involving Broncos legend

United Airlines has issued a statement apologizing to Denver Broncos legend Terrell Davis for an incident on Saturday that resulted in the Hall of Famer being handcuffed and ejected from a plane.

The 51-year-old former running back said he tapped a flight attendant’s arm to get his attention during Saturday’s flight and the attendant accused Davis of hitting him. When the plane landed, six police officers came on board, handcuffed Davis and escorted him off the plane.

“This is clearly not the type of travel experience we want to provide, and we have reached out to Mr. Davis’ team to apologize,” United said via CNN. “We have removed the flight attendant from duty while we closely investigate this matter.”

The 1998 MVP wrote on Instagram on Monday that he was flying with his wife and three children when his son asked a flight attendant for ice cream. When the flight attendant didn’t respond, Davis lightly tapped his arm and shouted, “Don’t hit me.”

The two-time Super Bowl champion and MVP of Super Bowl XXXII called the incident “humiliating, disturbing and traumatizing,” adding that police apologized and let him go when they realized what had happened. Davis said his lawyers would be in touch with the airline.
