Palm Beach County mail fraud ends with arrests – NBC 6 South Florida

According to the Palm Beach County District Attorney’s Office, several people have been arrested in connection with a mail theft that affected thousands of Palm Beach County residents.

This comes after NBC6 affiliate WPTV reported a number of mail fraud cases. The cases include a Boynton Beach woman who allegedly lost $50,000 to a check laundering scam.

According to prosecutors, five people are accused of participating in a criminal scheme that began with them stealing personal and corporate checks from thousands of people.

The people charged in this case have been identified as Jordan St. Val, Dario Cadet, Billy Cadet, Joelson Gabrius and Mozelle Estica. They are all between the ages of 20 and 24.

They are accused of extortion, conspiracy to commit extortion, identity fraud and theft.

According to prosecutors, they used keys stolen from mail carriers to open mailboxes overnight and stole mail from several cities, including Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Wellington.

Prosecutors allege that the group targeted envelopes containing electricity and gas bills and credit card payments and then “laundered” the checks, i.e. changed the amount and the payee.

Prosecutors have named the case “Operation Checkmate” and expect further arrests in connection with the plot.
