Braintree: Three people arrested in international gang of thieves

BRAINTREE, Mass. (WLNE) – Three suspects were arrested by Braintree police last week on suspicion of joining an international gang of thieves that uses surveillance, GPS, video feeds and counter-surveillance to monitor potential victims.

The alleged members of the group known as the South American Theft Groups (SATGs) are accused of placing a hidden camera outside a home in the Messina Woods neighborhood before breaking into the house on June 20.

Because Braintree Police suspected that more burglaries were imminent, they developed and implemented a surveillance plan.

On July 11, detectives observed a man disguised as a landscaper in a victim’s garden.

The suspect drove away in a black Audi SUV and was pursued to the Messina Woods neighborhood, where the vehicle stopped and a man dressed in black, wearing a mask and armed with a backpack entered a wooded area and reappeared in the victim’s yard.

Surveillance units tracked his movements as he moved toward the hidden camera, reappeared after ten minutes, and got into the SUV.

Detectives stopped the vehicle in which two arrested women were located.

The male perpetrator fled on foot but was arrested after a struggle.

The three suspects were arraigned in Quincy District Court. The man refused to be identified until he was fingerprinted and it was discovered that he had a criminal record in several states.

It turned out that all three suspects were citizens of Columbia.

They were identified as Carlos Ocampo-Carrillo, 47, Diana Maria Alvarado-Rosano, 34, and Lizbeth Hernandez-Gantiva, 23.

Ocampo-Carrillo was charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, carrying a dangerous weapon, conspiracy, burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Alvarado-Rosano is charged with providing false information after arrest, conspiracy and possession of burglary tools.

Hernandez-Gantiva is charged with conspiracy and possession of burglary tools.
