Traffic accident in northern Afghanistan leaves 17 dead and numerous injured

The accident in Baghlan province was caused by reckless driving. The victims included children, women and men.

At least 17 people were killed and 34 others injured when a coach plunged into a ravine in northern Afghanistan’s Baghlan province on Tuesday, provincial police spokesman Mawlawi Shir Ahmad Burhani said.

The fatal road accident occurred on Tuesday morning due to reckless driving in Khinjan district. 17 passengers, including three children, two women and 12 men, were killed, the official said. Thirty-four others, including women and children, were injured, some of them in critical condition.

A similar accident occurred on July 4 in the western province of Herat, leaving one person dead and 15 injured.
