APPLETON – The community is helping an Appleton teenager who was seriously injured in a bizarre accident last week.

Brett Jedwabny is currently at Children’s Wisconsin Hospital in Milwaukee and was placed in a medically induced coma upon arrival last week.

His parents, Tyler and Nicole, grew up in Kaukauna, and a GoFundMe page shared on social media and posted on the Kaukauna Community Group has already exceeded its goal of $40,000 to support the family during the crisis.

Brett’s father, Tyler, told NBC 26 that his son was using a pressure washer to clean a cart when the pressure washer hit one of the cart’s tires.

“Apparently it shattered. The debris came back and hit his right eye and skull,” Tyler told the television station.

Tyler says his wife saw Brett lying unconscious through the backyard window and called 911. Brett was then flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital.

In a post on the couple’s Facebook page Friday, Tyler and Nicole asked the community to pray for Brett, who was on a ventilator and in an induced coma.

Many in the community also express their support for the Jedwabneys.

“This family is very dear to our hearts and we ask that you all please stop what you are doing and pray for Brett as he is currently undergoing surgery,” said a post on the Holy Cross Men’s Open Facebook page.
