Lyneham man charged with raping woman in Swindon car park

A man from Lyneham has been charged with the rape of a woman in Old Town, Swindon.

In the early hours of June 30, police were called to the short-stay car park on Dammas Lane.

A crime scene was set up while forensics officers collected evidence – and a man was arrested.

Now Rooney Gardi, 22, of Calne Road, Lyneham, has been charged with rape.

He appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (6 July), where he was remanded in custody.

The defendant will next appear before Swindon Crown Court on 2 August for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
