Houston Humane Society Suffers Facility Damage from Hurricane Beryl

The Houston Humane Society has begun recovery efforts after sustaining extensive damage to its facilities during Hurricane Beryl.

Early estimates for repairs are in the thousands of dollars, and HHS is working to fund those repairs. It is also looking to build its building to be more resilient to future weather conditions.

Damage to the center includes broken windows, uprooted trees and flooding in the adoption center. Power is also out in the facility where pet food and other supplies are stored, and broken fences and scattered debris make it difficult for staff and volunteers to walk dogs.

“As we navigate the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, our top priority remains ensuring the well-being of every animal in our care,” Gary Poon, president and CEO of the Houston Humane Society, said in a statement. “This appeal is in response to the immense impact caused by the storm, at a time when we are also at our maximum capacity with animals to feed and shelter. We are grateful for the community’s support during this difficult time.”
