First Alert Weather in Depth: What the Survey Says? Tracking Extreme Weather Across the Country

First Alert Weather in detail: Pretty much everyone is confronted with weather extremes

During the summer months, there is often a chance of severe or extreme weather events in Western New York State. I would be very interested to know if other Americans across the country have had similar experiences. Gallup Poll did a survey a few years ago that looked at how likely other Americans were to have experienced severe weather and where these weather events occurred.

This is a survey conducted in all 50 states and over 1,000 people participated. An estimated 60 million people nationwide have experienced severe weather at some point. This survey also breaks down the data at a regional level and shows us what type of extreme weather is most common in that part of the country. Here’s the breakdown:

Northeast: 24 percent (6 percent floods and 6 percent hurricanes)
Middle West: 27 percent (7 percent snow, 6 percent floods and 6 percent tornadoes)
West: 35 percent (13 percent forest fires, 8 percent extreme heat and 7 percent drought)
South: 39 percent (12 percent extreme cold and 12 percent hurricanes)

What does this tell us? First, severe weather is occurring in every corner of the United States. Second, you will likely encounter severe or extreme weather at some point.
