Russian attacks on Kiev kill 29 people and injure 117, including 4 children (photos)

UKRAINE, KIEV, July 9 – On the morning of July 8, Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv, damaging a children’s hospital, two floors of a multi-storey building, a house, garages and cars. The Russian missile attack on the capital killed 29 people and injured 117, including four children.

In the attack, the Russians particularly hit Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital, Okhmatdyt. Two adults were killed and 32 people were injured in the attack, including eight children, the Kyiv city military administration reported.

Health Minister Viktor Liashko wrote on Facebook that at the time of the Russian attack, there were more than 600 patients and at least as many staff at Okhmatdyt and the nearby Ukrainian Center for Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.

The investigation found that Russian forces used a Kh-101 strategic cruise missile to attack the medical facility.

The missile destroyed the toxicology building and damaged four others. Ten surgical departments, five oncology departments, two somatic departments, intensive care units, two resuscitation units, operating units, radiology and radiotherapy departments, and part of the oncohematology laboratory were damaged.

“The Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv. It is one of the most important children’s hospitals not only in Ukraine but also in Europe. Okhmatdyt saved the lives of thousands of children. Now the hospital has been damaged by a Russian attack and people are trapped in the rubble. The exact number of injured and dead is unknown. Now everyone is helping to clear the rubble: doctors and civilians,” said President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Today at 10:25 am, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced that emergency rescue operations on the territory of the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv had been completed.
