Two people arrested after chase during robbery at 7-Eleven

(KRON) – Two men were arrested following a series of 7-Eleven robberies in Cupertino, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

The robbery occurred Saturday at a 7-Eleven on McClellan Road in Cupertino. According to the sheriff’s office, officers arrived shortly after the robbery at around 12:39 a.m. Officers learned that two masked and gloved men pointed a firearm at the store employee and stole money from the cash register. The masked suspects fled in a getaway vehicle before officers arrived.

According to the sheriff, while officers were conducting a preliminary investigation, another 7-Eleven on Homestead Road was robbed.

The California Highway Patrol assisted the Sheriff’s Office in locating the suspect’s vehicle in Redwood City.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply. Officers said they pursued the vehicle through several cities in San Mateo County. The pursuit ended when officers deployed spike barriers and immobilized the suspect on the ramp from Highway 101 to Highway 85. The suspects then fled on foot, but were apprehended.

The suspects were identified as 21-year-old Yosmar Castro-Cardona and 24-year-old Jose Herrera.

When arresting Castro-Cardona, officers said they prevented him from reaching for an unknown object in his pants pocket. The object was later identified as a loaded gun, officers said.

Herrera and Castro-Cardona were arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on several charges:

• Attempted murder
• robbery
• conspiracy
• Avoiding reckless driving
• Strong resistance to arrest
• Possession of a stolen firearm
• Carrying a loaded firearm
• Carrying a concealed firearm

According to the sheriff, Herrera had two warrants for his arrest for a separate robbery. According to the sheriff, Castro-Cardona, Herrera and a deputy suffered minor injuries during the arrest.
