Nighttime crash following Mid-Westside shooting leads to homicide investigation, details unknown – Action News Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating an overnight crash in the Mid-Westside area that left a driver dead and sparked a homicide investigation.

According to JSO, patrol officers were called to a building in the 1800 block of Myrtle Avenue shortly after midnight for a car crash. Upon arrival, they found that the driver, a man in his late 30s, had suffered at least one gunshot wound.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported the man to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene Unit are currently conducting investigations with partners from the local District Attorney’s Office.

There is currently no information available on where the shooting occurred, nor is there any information available on the suspect. Detectives are currently actively searching the area for clues.

The circumstances of the incident and the relationships between those involved remain unknown. Therefore, the classification of the incident is still pending.

Investigators are working closely with the coroner and prosecutor to uncover further details.
