Forecast outlook 05.07.2024

A Heat Advisory remains in effect for FOX5’s coverage area, highlighting the intense and prolonged heat wave currently affecting our region. Dangerously high temperatures are forecast for the region through next week, with several temperature records (including the all-time high temperature of 117°) expected to be met, exceeded or broken.

Heat advisories for the Spring Mountains, Sheep Range and White Mountains in Inyo County will also be activated Saturday and will remain in effect through Wednesday. Highs are expected to reach 85°-90° at 8,000 feet in the Spring Mountains and Sheep Range and 105°-110° at 4,000 feet in Red Rock Canyon.

The heat will stay with us through the weekend as highs on Saturday are expected to be around 115°. Temperatures are expected to continue to rise through Sunday, breaking the previous high of 117°. The current record for most consecutive days with highs of 115° or more is: 4 days (July 16-19, 2005). The current 7-day forecast calls for highs of 115° or more for Saturday through Thursday (6 days).

Please note that the official weather recording site is located at Harry Reid International Airport. Las Vegas has only reached its highest temperature on record (117°) five times since official weather records began in the 1930s. The last day with 117° was July 10, 2021.

There are slight signs that monsoon moisture will return late next week. This could help us cool down to 110° by next weekend.

Stay hydrated, stay cool, and take plenty of breaks if you are outdoors during peak afternoon hours.
