Pedestrian killed in crash on I80 at I55 near Shorewood, Illinois State Police say; westbound lanes closed

SHOREWOOD, Ill. (WLS) – A pedestrian was killed in an accident on Interstate 80 in the southern suburbs Friday morning, Illinois State Police said.

According to ISP, the multi-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80 west of Interstate 55 near Shorewood.

A semi-trailer truck collided with a car that had already crashed on the road, ISP said.

A pedestrian was fatally struck while standing outside her vehicle.

All westbound lanes of I-80 are closed and traffic is being diverted to northbound I-55. Police say there are no estimates as to when the lanes will reopen.

The police initially did not provide any further information about the accident.
