The Electoral Court in Bloemfontein has fined two seditious MK party leaders, Visvin Reddy and Bonginkosi Khanyile, R150,000 each and given them five years’ probation for making “seditious” comments ahead of the 2024 general elections.

This comes after the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) asked the court to sanction them in documents filed in early May.

In a 94-page affidavit, IEC chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo asked the court to declare Reddy’s candidacy for parliament invalid and fine him R200,000 for making the comments, which violated sections 87 and 93 of the Electoral Act.
