Heat stress potential lasts until mid-week

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – TODAY: Today could be the hottest day of the year so far. Afternoon temperatures are expected to be between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius. Heat indices will be above 38 degrees Celsius, so be cautious if you are spending long periods outdoors. Our weather will remain warm overnight with lows around 25 degrees Celsius under mostly clear skies.

WEDNESDAY: Temperatures may not be as high on Wednesday, but there will be a higher chance of rain. Scattered summer showers and thunderstorms are likely to flare up during the afternoon. For those not seeing rain, it will be a hot day with temperatures in the 35s and feels like 40s to 43s.

EXTENDED FORECAST: The Fourth of July will be all about heat stress. Highs on Thursday afternoon will be between 90 and 100 degrees, with a small chance of sudden showers. Rain chances are expected to increase over Saturday and Sunday weekend, so keep this in mind when planning your outdoor vacation. Fortunately, the heat will then ease somewhat, with highs of 90 degrees this weekend and next week.

Talking about the tropics: Hurricane Beryl remains a strong storm moving across the southeastern Caribbean. The latest forecast calls for Beryl to gradually weaken as it approaches the Yucatan Peninsula by the end of the week. From there, it could emerge over the western Gulf of Mexico. There is still uncertainty about where it will go from there, and it will take a northward turn.
