53 people, including 9 teenagers, arrested hours after Chicago Pride Parade – NBC Chicago

More than four dozen people were arrested, and several of them faced felony charges, following chaotic scenes and “mass arrests” in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood on Sunday night.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Monday in the 3000 block of North Clark Street, police said, about 12 hours after the Chicago Pride Parade ended. A total of 53 people, including nine juveniles, were arrested, police said.

Fourteen of those arrested were charged with serious crimes, police said, with charges ranging from aggravated assault on a traffic worker to aggravated assault on a police officer and more.

Police said 24 of those arrested were charged with various offenses, including reckless conduct, assault, battery and property damage.

According to police, charges are pending against twelve other people.

In addition, four weapons were seized at the scene, police added.

“Our officers, who showed great restraint and patience, recovered four firearms during their deployment to the crowds,” the CPD said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Photos and videos from the scene posted on social media showed dozens of police officers on the street and on bicycles, with clashes breaking out at times.

According to court documents, some of the accused adults appeared in court for detention hearings on Monday. According to court documents, one of the accused adults was seen riding down the street on a scooter with a gun and an open bottle of alcohol.

According to Chicago police, at least one detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

The chaos comes as the city and Chicago police prepare for next month’s Democratic National Convention, which is expected to draw large crowds of protesters.
