Woman dead after accident in Gonzales, police said

GONZALES, Louisiana (BRPROUD) – Gonzales Police are investigating a crash that left one person dead on Saturday, June 29.

At around 8 p.m., police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 61 and Louisiana Highway 44.


According to GPD, 38-year-old Jennifer Davenport was driving a 2023 GMC Yukon south on US Highway 61.

“For reasons still under investigation, the Yukon disregarded a red light at the intersection with Louisiana Highway 44 and collided with a 2007 Mazda 5 driven by Joey Gregoire,” police said.

Davenport was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Gregoire was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.

“As part of the ongoing investigation, a routine toxicology sample was taken in Davenport for analysis,” GPD said.
