Live updates on the London Underground: Two lines partially closed due to fire alarm

A fire alarm at Queensway station in west London led to a partial closure of the Central Line this morning (Monday, July 1).

There is currently no connection between Marble Arch and White City.

On the Northern Line there is no service between Morden and Tooting Broadway due to a separate fire alarm in Morden.

The Overground is suspended between Gospel Oak and Stratford, and there are significant delays between Gospel Oak and Richmond/Clapham Junction due to a third fire alarm at Hackney Central.

Meanwhile, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is experiencing “significant delays due to a switch failure in the Beckton area”. There are also minor delays on the Hammersmith and City Line due to train cancellations.

Tram services are also experiencing delays due to strikes, which will last from 30 June to 8 July and from 11 to 15 July. All other lines, including the London Overground and Elizabeth Line, are running smoothly.

Significant delays on London Overground

There is no service between Gospel Oak and Stratford, and there are significant delays between Gospel Oak and Richmond/Clapham Junction due to a fire alarm at Hackney Central. However, there are good services on all other London Overground routes.

Part of the northern route closed

Due to a fire alarm in Morden, there is no service between Morden and Tooting Broadway. There are minor delays on the rest of the route.

Tram workers earn up to £10,000 less per year than London Underground workers

Tram workers are striking over pay because they are paid much less than their colleagues on the London Underground, despite having the same qualifications and doing the same job. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “TfL believes it can hire these workers cheaply and treat them like second-class employees. The situation is totally unacceptable and our members are absolutely right to go on strike. They have the full support of Unite.”

The strikes will affect traffic in Croydon and south London and disrupt transport to this year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament.
