Tim’s thoughts:

Although it was cloudy to start with and even some light rain, we had enough sunshine to bring our highs back up to the mid-80s, and we even reached well over 90 in the west. Most of the central and southern areas have a slight risk for severe weather tonight, but as we saw last night, that’s far from a guarantee that these severe storms will develop. Morning cloud cover helped to curb some of the instability, and we still have warm temperatures to overcome aloft, but we should see at least isolated thunderstorms in the western part of the state moving eastward through the evening. These storms have the potential to produce large hail and damaging winds, but should be relatively isolated. Cooler air will then move in over the weekend, with highs expected to be in the 70s both days. Saturday could start off a little windy, but it should be very pleasant in the afternoon, and Sunday morning could actually be a little chilly for many as temperatures drop into the 50s for many. We’ll expect rain Sunday morning, especially in the southern parts of the observation areas, and there’s a chance of isolated thunderstorms Sunday evening. Things will warm up quickly early next week, with highs in the 30s before temperatures return to 25 degrees for the rest of the week. The weather pattern remains active, offering us plenty of thunderstorms over the course of next week. Time will tell if these storms will affect Fourth of July plans.
