Normani cancels appearance at BET Awards 2024 after ‘serious accident’

Normani was supposed to break her leg at the 2024 BET Awards, but unfortunately she injured it during rehearsals and had to withdraw from the annual show.

The “Candy Paint” singer announced the news just minutes before the start of the live show in Los Angeles, sharing a photo on Instagram of herself with crutches, a bandage around her right knee and what looks like a boot on her right foot.

I’m more frustrated and disappointed than anyone, believe me,” Normani wrote. “I wanted to come by and give you guys an update and let you know that I had a really bad accident during rehearsals for BET and I injured myself.”

Although she is “normally good at persevering under any circumstances,” Normani added that under doctor’s orders, she “just wasn’t able to perform that feat.”

“I really wanted to give you my best on stage, but performing would delay my healing,” she continued. “I’ve gone through my process and done my best to understand my feelings about this. I’m devastated and I hate feeling like a disappointment to you, but I need to focus on my recovery now.”

Normani continued to send her love to BET “for giving me and all the other beautiful black women this opportunity,” concluding, “This is definitely NOT how I imagined this weekend would go, but I can believe you that I will be rooting for everyone from home tonight. I’m sorry guys, and I love you so much.”

The BET Awards were supposed to be Normani’s first major live performance since the release of her long-delayed debut album. DopamineAt the beginning of the month. “I enjoyed the recording process, but I say, ‘Put me on stage!'” Normani said. “I’m ready to perform, I’m ready to do the videos.’ That’s my bread and butter. And that’s what gives me the most joy.”
