5-year-old boy dies after police respond to drowning accident in Richmond West – NBC 6 South Florida

A 5-year-old boy died Thursday when police were called to a drowning accident in the Richmond West neighborhood in southwest Miami-Dade, police said.

Miami-Dade Police officers responded to reports of a possible drowning accident in the 14000 block of Southwest 168th Terrace after 7:30 p.m.

The child was flown by helicopter to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

His identity was not disclosed.

Last year, 99 children drowned in Florida. Florida has the highest child death rate in the country.
