Teaser trailer reveals Dead Rising remaster with new Frank West

If I were in a zombie apocalypse scenario, I simply wouldn’t walk into a mall full of the undead waiting to rip my body apart. Not so for photographer Frank West, a man who is drawn to zombies like a moth to a flame. Dead Rising introduced us to everyone’s favorite snapshot camera and now, 18 years after its launch, it’s being revamped in a brand new version.

It was revealed via the almost defunct Dead Rising X account with a short teaser trailer, and it’s hard to get a firm grasp on what form this remastered version will take. What we can say, however, is that the iconic zombie game seems to be heading in a slightly different direction. It looks like Capcom is working on a reimagining of the game, rather than just a bit of polish like we saw with the 2016 re-release. If you want to take a look at how the previous remaster fares, our Dead Rising PC port review has everything you need.

There are two things that indicate that this remaster has a significant ambition to change things up. The first is simply the game’s graphics. Although only a few moments from the beginning of the game are shown, it’s clear that this is a massive leap forward compared to what we got in 2006. That might be an obvious statement, as many improvements have been made in the visual realm of gaming in 18 years, but it’s still surprising to see how much better Dead Rising looks now.

The other big change is to the player – or rather Frank West. Along with the game’s overall visual overhaul, Frank gets a completely new look. His Michael Madsen-esque features are gone and replaced with something much more stylish, complete with some of the floppiest hair I’ve ever seen in a game. Along with a new look, the voice actor has also been changed, as original voice actor TJ Rotolo is no longer around for this remake. There’s no word yet on who will be voicing Frank West, but potentially Dead Rising 4 actor Ty Olsson could return.

There is currently no indication as to when the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will be releasedThe teaser promises that more information will be available “soon”.
