Logan man pleads guilty to stalking, raping and secretly filming Nibley woman | News

LOGAN – A 42-year-old Logan man has admitted to raping and sexually assaulting a woman and setting up cameras to secretly record and stalk her, according to court documents. Aaron Hartzell Norton has been in the Cache County Jail since his arrest in December 2022.

According to court records, Norton appeared in Logan’s 1st District Court on June 10 for a final pretrial hearing. He accepted a plea deal on two counts, pleading guilty to rape and two counts of attempted sodomy, amended to second-degree felonies; stalking and criminal damage, amended to third-degree felonies; and two counts of voyeurism, amended to Class A misdemeanors.

As part of the agreement, prosecutors agreed to drop nine remaining charges without prejudice. A five-day pretrial hearing scheduled for July 29 was also canceled.

According to prosecutors, Cache County Sheriff’s officers were called to a Nibley home in December 2022 after the homeowner allegedly found a hidden camera in an electrical outlet. Another device was found in her bedroom, pointed toward her bathroom.

The victim claimed that Norton, with whom she had a previous relationship, had been stalking her for the past two months. He had used her cell phone location data to track her movements.

The woman told officers that Norton asked to pick up some belongings in November 2022, but then stayed for three and a half hours, during which time he allegedly bugged the house.

After Norton’s arrest, officers attempted to question him, but he refused and requested an attorney.

During the June 10 trial, Judge Angela Fonnesbeck accepted Norton’s guilty plea and set a sentencing date for July 15.

Norton remains in jail without bail and could face up to 15 years in prison at sentencing.
