Accident near French Camp leaves one dead

STOCKTON, Calif. – One person died Sunday when he drove into oncoming traffic while trying to pass another car near French Camp.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident was reported around 12 p.m. in the area of ​​Bowman and Manthey streets.

According to police, the driver of a Nissan Ultima was driving at high speed behind a black Mazda 3, tried to overtake it and crashed into oncoming traffic. The driver lost control of the car and rolled over several times before landing on its tires.

The driver, a 31-year-old Stockton man, was pronounced dead. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident, but according to the CHP, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
