Man dies after being found unconscious in West Islip swimming pool

A man who was found unconscious in a swimming pool in West Islip early Sunday evening has died, according to Suffolk police.

They say it happened around 6 p.m. at a home on Graywood Court.

Detectives said they received a 911 call saying a family member found 45-year-old Akinola Johnson unconscious and pulled him from the water.

The family began to resuscitate Johnson until first responders arrived at the scene.

Johnson was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in critical condition, but later died there.

Suffolk Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Third Squad Detectives at 631-854-8352.
