A suspect has been arrested after a missing Louisiana child was found dead in Jackson.

Louisiana State Police issued an Amber Alert for 4-year-old Erin Burnett and 6-year-old Jalie Burnett on Thursday morning. The two girls are believed to have been abducted after their mother, 35-year-old Callie Burnett, was found brutally murdered in her trailer in Loranger, Louisiana.

Authorities asked the public to be on the lookout for an unidentified white man who was being questioned about a domestic violence incident that led police to the scene. Hours later and 128 miles away, police in Mississippi’s capital found the suspect on the loose, now identified as Daniel Callihan.

Callihan led JPD officers on a chase that ended at a location on Boozier Drive. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade told WJTV there was evidence of possible human trafficking. According to Wade, there were animal cages that may have contained humans, and when officers searched the area, they found Erin dead in a nearby wooded area and Jalie alive. Paramedics took Jalie to a local hospital as a precaution.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation’s Human Trafficking Unit has been contacted to further investigate the crime scene. The FBI and U.S. Marshal’s Service have also responded and are asking the public for additional information on the case.
