Indian police arrest man after incident at gas station and foot chase

IDER, Alabama (WHNT) – The Ider Police Department (IPD) said it arrested a man Tuesday after an incident at a local gas station led to a foot chase.

According to IPD, Kenneth Knight was arrested Tuesday following the incident at Mayo’s Food Mart.

According to the department, officers observed a man, later identified as Knight, walking toward the gas station armed with a knife. The department said officers approached the man and asked him what he was doing, but he “responded, ‘Goddammit,’ and ran into the woods.”

Multiple agencies responded to the scene and were eventually able to locate Knight. According to IPD, Knight was tasered because he continually attempted to run away from officers and resist arrest. The agency said that after Knight’s arrest, officers found a digital scale and methamphetamine on him.

According to IPD, Knight was wanted by the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, Rainsville Police Department and Sylvania Police Department on various charges.

The department said Knight was taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center without incident.
