Incident of aggression behind the wheel of the Pennsylvania Turnpike ends in murder-suicide: police

Two men have died following a fatal road rage incident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, police said Monday.

The two men – identified only as a 40-year-old from Royersford, Pennsylvania, and a 59-year-old from North Dinwiddie, Virginia – encountered each other in northeast Lancaster County on Friday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

According to police, the 59-year-old pulled out a gun and shot the 40-year-old, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. The shooting victim was taken to Reading Hospital and pronounced dead on Monday.

While police were investigating the shooting, they began searching for a white semi-trailer truck, according to the Allentown Morning Call.

Authorities found the vehicle Saturday in a parking lot in Berks County, less than 10 miles east on the highway, the Morning Call reported. The 59-year-old gunman was found dead in the cab of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Pennsylvania State Police described the initial confrontation only as a “road rage-style incident” and did not provide further details about the incident in central Pennsylvania between Morgantown and Reading.

The 40-year-old victim was driving a white pickup truck while the 59-year-old man was driving the semi-trailer, police said. Authorities closed the eastbound lanes of the highway for several hours while they investigated the shooting.

Pennsylvania State Police are still investigating the shooting and are asking anyone with any witnesses to come forward.
