Businessman accused of raping ex-girlfriend released on bail | News

A St. Catherine car dealer accused of kidnapping and raping his ex-girlfriend has been released on bail.

The accused is Davian Smythe, 27 years old, of Portmore, St. Catherine.

Smythe is accused of kidnapping, false imprisonment, rape, aggravated sexual assault, assault, simple theft and assault.

Attorney Dirk Harrison filed a successful application on Tuesday when the matter became known.

High Court Judge Desiree Alleyne granted bail on the condition that Smythe report to Portmore police station twice a week, surrender his travel documents and have no contact with the complainant.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 9, when the case is retried.

The defendant is accused of attacking the plaintiff in February and stealing several items.

The incident was reported to Waterford Police and following an investigation, Smythe was arrested and subsequently charged.
