Rape survivors: 2 minor rape survivors quit SSC, aim to become police officers | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: It’s not just the physical pain that minor rape survivors have to live with. They also have to overcome enormous psychological trauma, especially if they were attacked by a close relative. Two of these girls from Hyderabad, one 16 years old and one 17 years old, recently passed the Class X exams and have decided what their future holds. Both desperately want to become police officers so they can help victims of various forms of violence. While the 16-year-old achieved a GPA of 5.2, the other girl achieved an impressive GPA of 9.3. But the grades don’t matter. It’s the battles they fought within themselves to regain hope in the future that count. The 16-year-old, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste community, gave birth a few months before the exams. She was raped by her own father, leaving emotional scars that she still struggles with. She said she didn’t understand what her father did to her and that she couldn’t tell anyone about the assault because he threatened her and her mother with dire consequences.
