Police suspect murder-suicide after missing North Carolina couple found dead in woods

US News

A North Carolina man who disappeared with his estranged wife is accused of killing her and then himself after police discovered their bodies with gunshot wounds in a wooded area on Friday.

This tragic discovery comes after an alert was issued for 60-year-old Cynthia Gobble in Ashanti on Thursday and her 59-year-old husband Greg Goble was identified as a suspect in connection with her disappearance.

The Davie County Sheriff’s Office has been searching for the Gobbles ever since, and officers eventually found both bodies in a wooded area in Iredell County.

Officials said the two were going through a divorce at the time of her disappearance, and there is evidence that Greg killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, WFMY News reported.

When police checked on Cynthia’s Mocksville home around 10 p.m. on Thursday, they found the woman was gone – but her purse, wallet and insulin were left behind.

The search also revealed evidence that Cynthia had been evicted from her home against her will, investigators said.

Greg was listed as a person of interest in the disappearance, but neither officials nor family members were able to locate the man or his white food truck, which investigators believed he was driving the day the couple disappeared.

An Ashanti Alert – similar to an Amber Alert but for adults – was issued for Cynthia and Greg was identified as a suspect in connection with her disappearance.

The warning said there were indications of “physical danger, abduction or kidnapping.”

On Friday, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it had found Greg’s food truck in a wooded area off Sheffield Road. Two bodies were also found nearby.

Investigators confirmed that the bodies were those of Cynthia and Greg and said the murder weapon was also found nearby.

“Iredell County and Davie County detectives are currently investigating the scene,” the local sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We do not suspect any other individuals were involved in this incident and there is no further danger to the public.”
