On the last day of his service, suspended IPS officer Rao gets a job as printing officer

Vijayawada: On his last day of service, the Andhra Pradesh government on Friday reinstated suspended IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao and appointed him as Commissioner of Printing, Stationery and Shop Purchasing, Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada.

In G.0. Rt. No. 1002 dated May 31, 2024, the State Government issued orders revoking the suspension of Rao, who was a 1989 batch regular recruit officer, and reinstating him in service with immediate effect. His reinstatement and posting were subject to the outcome of the criminal proceedings against him in FIR No. 1/RCO-CIU-ACB/2021 as well as the writ petition – 12060/2024 pending before the Andhra Pradesh High Court, according to DR. KS Jawahar Reddy, Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh.

Rao’s suspension order was quashed by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on May 8, 2024, with directions to reinstate him immediately. The state government has filed a writ petition seeking quashing of the CAT’s order, seeking, among other things, an interim stay on the execution of the orders.

The High Court, in its order dated 30 May 2024, admitted the writ petition and directed the WPMP to grant an interim stay of CAT’s order for a further hearing on 20 June 2024.

After a comprehensive consideration of all the circumstances, the Government is of the opinion that it is appropriate and fair to immediately reinstate the officer and assign him to the appropriate posts so that he can retire on 31 May 2024, the date of retirement.
